Tara Rafting in June: Early or Late June?

· 6 min read

Tara rafting in June offers the best balance of adrenaline and comfort all season. In early June the river is still lively and fast; in the second half of June the water level drops and the descent becomes calmer, suitable for families with children too. The air is around 22-28°C, the days are long and crowds are smaller than in July and August.

Why is June the sweet spot for Tara rafting?

June combines the best of both halves of the season. The water is still strong enough to make the run through 20+ rapids exciting, but the river is no longer in its wildest, May mood. At the same time the weather is warm, the days are long and the camp is not yet in full summer swing.

For many guests that makes June an ideal first encounter with the Tara: you feel the power of the river through a canyon up to around 1,300 m deep - the deepest in Europe - without needing to be an experienced rafter. If this is your first time, also read our guide to Tara rafting for beginners.

Early June or late June?

This is the question we get most about June. The short answer: early June is for adrenaline, the second half of June is for a more relaxed descent and families.

Early June Second half of June
River Still lively and fast Water level drops, calmer flow
Experience More adrenaline More relaxed, still exciting
Best for Groups of friends, active couples Families with children, beginners, mixed groups
Air Around 22-28°C, long days

Is June good for rafting with kids?

Yes, especially from the second half of June. The minimum age for rafting is 6, and children ride with a parent or another adult. Once the water level drops, the river is calmer and families can enjoy it without stress. Every raft has a licensed skipper and there is a safety briefing before the start. You will find more practical tips in our post on rafting with kids.

Families also benefit from June being less crowded than July and August, and the camp works for everyone: every unit has a private bathroom, pets are welcome, and vegetarian, vegan and fasting meals are available on request.

What else can you do on the Tara in June?

Long June days leave plenty of time for more activities after rafting, which ends with lunch at the camp. Try canoeing (from 25€, age 8+), hiking (from 60€), horseback riding (from 50€) or the via ferrata and ZIP line (from 50€). Want it all in one package?
