Canyoning in the Tara Canyon

Jump into crystal-clear pools, slide down natural rock chutes and swim through untouched rocky passages. Canyoning on the Tara River is an experience you will never forget.

What is canyoning?

Descend the canyon – nature's ultimate adventure

Canyoning takes you deep into the heart of a canyon – places where a river has carved rocky corridors, pools and waterfalls over millennia. Unlike rafting, where you sit in a raft, canyoning puts you in direct contact with the water and rock: you walk, swim, jump and slide through the canyon guided purely by gravity and adrenaline.

The Tara River Canyon offers some of the most spectacular canyoning locations in the Balkans. Crystal-clear, drinkable water, natural rock slides and pools several metres deep make this a must-visit destination for anyone seeking true wilderness adventure.

What to expect on a canyoning tour

Cliff jumps

Jump from natural rock platforms into deep green pools – heights range from 2 to 8 metres depending on the chosen route and your experience.

Natural rock slides

Glide down smooth stone chutes that only a river can create over thousands of years of erosion.

Swimming through gorges

Narrow rocky passages where the only way through is to swim, with sunlight filtering through only occasionally.

Rope descents

On certain sections we use rappelling equipment to descend rock faces safely – the ideal alternative for greater heights.

Equipment & safety

Canyoning requires specialised equipment. At Camp Eden everything is included in the price: wetsuit, neoprene socks, helmet, life jacket and rappelling harnesses. All equipment is regularly serviced and replaced in line with international standards.

Our guides are licensed canyoning instructors with years of experience on these specific routes. Every tour starts with a briefing on movement techniques, jump assessment and canyon safety rules. Group safety is always the top priority.

  • 5mm wetsuit – protection from cold water
  • Helmet and life jacket – included on every tour
  • Harness and ropes – for technically demanding sections
  • Licensed instructor – max. 8 people per guide
  • Accident insurance – included

Who can go canyoning?

Canyoning is accessible to anyone who can swim and is in reasonable physical shape. No previous experience is needed – our guides introduce you gradually, from easier to more demanding sections. The minimum recommended age is 14, and for younger participants we adapt the route accordingly.

Canyoning is not recommended for people with heart conditions, serious orthopaedic issues or severe claustrophobia. If in doubt, please consult us before booking.
